Sometimes life pulls you in directions you didn’t quite plan—but end up needing. That’s exactly what happened to me over the past year and a half, and it’s why Education DIRT has been a so quiet.
The truth is, I had to step away from blogging to focus on some new opportunities and a lot of personal growth.

A Cottage-Sized Adventure
First, I poured my energy into my small cottage food business. Running it meant more than baking and packaging—it meant learning how to showcase what I make. Food photography became a new challenge, and I’ve been experimenting with lighting, composition, and editing to bring a little more life (and flavor!) into every picture. It stretched me in ways I didn’t expect, but I love that my creative muscles got a workout outside the classroom.
Back to School… Again
On top of that, I started a Master of Measurement & Statistics program, and I’m on track to finish in May 2026. It’s been equal parts exhilarating and humbling. Diving into data, research methods, and statistical models has reminded me how much I love digging into the why and how of learning. It’s also opening doors for the kind of career I’m seeking next—one that blends research, curriculum development, instructional design, and data analysis.

Reconnecting Where It Matters Most
Not all of my growth this past year has been professional. I also spent time with family and friends and made it a priority to strengthen my connections with my boys. Those moments—game nights, deep conversations, even just hanging out—have been some of the most rewarding.
And in between it all, I’ve tried to become a better learner myself. I’ve leaned on people whose skills exceed mine, whether it was in business, statistics, photography, or parenting, and I’ve learned that being a student again—of life, work, and family—is one of the best ways to grow.

What’s Next for Education DIRT
Now, I’m stepping back into the world of education with fresh eyes and new skills. I’m exploring opportunities where I can combine my passions: research, curriculum design, instructional strategies, and data-driven decision making. And of course, I’m ready to bring all those experiences back here, to Education DIRT, where I can share insights, stories, and resources with you.
Thank you for sticking around during my year away. I can’t wait to dig back in and get a little “dirtier” in the world of education together.
